My New Poker Site
September 30, 2008
I just launched a new poker site that took forever to build, so I wanted to tell my readers about it. The site is PokerSite.org, and is a resource for both live and online poker players. On the live side of the site, there are write ups on all of the live poker circuits, as well as biographies of major poker pros. In the future I plan to add write ups on local casinos, tournament results, and add a ton of more poker player biographies.
When it comes to online poker, the site has even more content for my visitors. First of all, we’ve got reviews of all the major online poker sites, as well as toplists with rankings such as “best sites for mac users” or “best poker sites for US players”. I also wrote biographies of major online poker players such as Sn8wman.
Besides that, we also have a huge poker strategy section, and have plans to add more sections such as Razz strategy and 2-7 Triple Draw strategy for players who play rare games.
Safe Security Among the Online Casino Industry
May 23, 2008
People are always being told to take certain security measures while surfing the internet or even more while purchasing items on the web. Certain groups feel it is becoming a growing problem, but the online casino industry has been doing its job.
The RGA or Remote Gambling Association announced yesterday that the online casino industry has no problems with their security. Players on these sites should feel very happy and no longer have concerns about their money. The industry is growing and expanding everyday and the online casinos are doing a great job at taking the necessary precautions to secure peoples’ money.
Online Casinos have been using many tools to help keep this safety and the RGA has definitely taken notcie. The RGA is the worlds largest voice on these types of regulations so getting this approval is something to be proud of.
Barkley says it’s time for a change
May 20, 2008
Charles Barkley, one of the best rebounders in the game, as been quoted as saying that he will quit his gambling days after paying back the Wynn Resorts Ltd. $400,000 off his gambling debt.
The Wynn Resort sued Barkley after they extended him time in October to repay his debts and he never made these payments. Barkley commented as saying that he was never given a specific time frame to make these payments and said that he had enough money to make these payments.
There were definitely mixed signals about Barkley as he started the interview as saying “I’m not going to gamble anymore,” and later said “For right now, the next year or two, I’m not going to gamble.” It is seeming to be a more temporary thing, but I guess we will just have to wait and see.
US Casinos Report Growth for 2007
May 15, 2008
Although the US economy has been slowing down, the casino market in the United States reported significant growth for the 2007 period. The final numbers just came out, and overall gambling revenue increased by 5.3% for the year, equaling a total of $34.1 billion in revenues. Also, I’d imagine that profits rose significantly as well, because the revenue increased while casino jobs decreased by 2.3% equaling less payroll for the casinos.
The total loss of workers was 8,500 people and this brought the total amount of casino employees down to about 360,000 people. Although the broad market showed an increase in business, Atlantic City was hit hard by a few factors, leaving them with less to show for their efforts.
First of all, many slot machines were placed in Philadelphia which really cut down on the number of people traveling from Philadelphia to New Jersey to gamble as they could just do it right from their own city. Also, a new bill passed in New Jersey forced Atlantic City casinos to have a non smoking section of their casino, and this surely agitated the smokers who were alienated to only certain parts of the floor. With an even more aggressive non-smoking bill in the works, New Jersey should definitely be concerned about their gambling revenues.
Although everything went well last year for Vegas, this year is going to be tougher. Major casinos are already reporting a slow start to 2008, and citing gas prices as the issue. Many people who aren’t located in Vegas or Jersey don’t want to spend the money on gas to drive there, so there are less customers then in years past.
Another theory as to why the US gaming revenue has fallen is the fact that many players are just resorting to online casinos nowadays. Places like Rushmore Casino accept USA players and report that the majority of their revenue comes from players based in the USA. Plus, they offer all of the major games and even more variations, since they have less overhead cost than any live casino does.
